FutureU ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data. By using FutureU you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

FutureU is a Canadian AI-powered platform that helps students find the right university program and career path. We are based in Ontario, Canada. If you have any questions about this policy you can contact us at privacy@tryfutureu.ca.

2. What information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you use FutureU:

  • Survey answers — your academic average, subject preferences, personality responses, location preferences, and open text answers you submit through the survey.
  • Email address — when you create an account or request your results by email.
  • Password — stored securely using industry-standard hashing. We never store plain text passwords.
  • Payment information — if you purchase a report or Pro subscription. Payment is processed by Stripe. We never store your full card number — only a payment confirmation token.

We also collect limited technical information automatically:

  • Browser type and version
  • Device type (mobile or desktop)
  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Referring website (how you found us)

We do not collect your name, phone number, home address, social insurance number, or any government-issued identification.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate your personalized university and program recommendations
  • Send your results to your email address
  • Maintain your account and saved results on your dashboard
  • Process payments for reports and subscriptions
  • Improve the accuracy of our AI recommendations over time
  • Send you product updates if you opt in (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or significant effects on you. Our AI recommendations are a guide only — not a binding admissions decision.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. Ever. We share data only with trusted third-party services that help us operate FutureU:

  • OpenAI — your anonymized survey answers are sent to OpenAI's API to generate recommendations. OpenAI's data usage policy applies to this data. We do not send your email address or payment information to OpenAI.
  • Supabase — our database provider stores your account information and saved results securely.
  • Stripe — processes your payments. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant.
  • Vercel — hosts our website and servers.
  • Resend — sends transactional emails (your results, gift codes). We share only your email address with Resend for delivery purposes.

We may disclose your information if required by Canadian law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on servers located in Canada and the United States. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage. We follow industry best practices to protect your data from unauthorized access.

No system is 100% secure. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your personal information we will notify you within 72 hours as required by Canadian law.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Survey answers — kept for as long as your account is active, then deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Account information — kept until you delete your account.
  • Payment records — kept for 7 years as required by Canadian tax law.
  • Anonymous analytics — kept indefinitely as they cannot be linked back to you.

7. Your rights

As a user of FutureU you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion — delete your account and all associated data from your dashboard, or by emailing us
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent — stop receiving marketing emails at any time by clicking Unsubscribe

8. Cookies

We use minimal cookies strictly necessary to operate the site — for example to keep you logged in between sessions. We do not use advertising cookies or track you across other websites. We do not use Google Analytics cookies that identify individual users.

9. Children's privacy

FutureU is intended for users who are 14 years of age or older. If you are under 14 please ask a parent or guardian before using our service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a user is under 13 we will delete their account immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of FutureU after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
